Objectives: To determine the benefits and harms of different corticosteroid regimes in preventing relapse in children with steroid responsive nephrotic syndrome (SRNS)and compare the effects of long-term corticosteroid therapy with the use of short-term systemic corticosteroids [21, 22]; to compare differences in the outcome of patients with SRNS following chronic steroid exposure relative to those following treatment with short-term systemic corticosteroids ; to compare differences in quality of life and adverse events of patients with SRNS relative to those receiving systemic corticosteroid use [24, 25]; to compare the rate and severity of the most common adverse effects experienced by patients with SRNS compared with patients receiving short-term systemic corticosteroids [26, 27]; to make comparisons between patients with SRNS and those treated with systemic corticosteroids ; and to compare the risk of recurrence of SRNS to that of other conditions [30, 31]. Subjects: Children aged 6--18 years at the time of enrollment who were enrolled in the multicenter study; Procedures: The primary objective of the study was to assess the use of corticosteroids to prevent recurrence in children with SRNS, syndrome nephrotic for prednisone. Patients with SRNS who were receiving the first prescribed corticosteroid regime at entry were eligible for participation in the study if the patient had at least one of the following: A documented history of recurrent nephrotic syndrome; A documented history of significant or significant improvement of their condition following corticosteroid therapy; and An initial treatment plan for maintaining a stable baseline on steroid doses (see Surgical Treatment). Patients with SRNS who were treated with a new drug therapy were not eligible for participation in the study if: At the time of enrollment, the drug therapy was being tested for efficacy in children with SRNS; The patient had received corticosteroids and other drug therapy for SRNS since the first use of the drug therapy at the time of enrollment; The patient received more than one steroid therapy at the time of enrollment; The patient would receive corticosteroids within the next year; or A prior drug therapy had failed to maintain a baseline on all steroids at enrollment, indicating that the patient was not likely to relapse [1, 30]. Study Design and Procedures: Patients were enrolled at a single center to undergo a baseline evaluation of their condition and undergo a standard set of routine laboratory tests (i, steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome treatment.e, steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome treatment. complete blood count [CBC], alkaline phosphat
